WATERMELON LEMONADE AGUA FRESA
Today, I’m excited to share a delightful and refreshing recipe that’s perfect for summer: Watermelon Lemonade Agua Fresca with Ginger and Chia Seeds. This drink not only tastes fantastic but also packs a nutritional punch, making it a favorite in my household. Let’s dive in!
Why Agua Fresca?
Agua fresca, which translates to “fresh water,” is a light, non-alcoholic beverage that combines water with fruits, seeds, and sometimes flowers. Originating from Mexico, these drinks are a staple for quenching thirst and staying hydrated during hot days. They’re incredibly versatile and can be customized to suit your taste preferences.
The Star Ingredients
Watermelon: The base of our agua fresca is watermelon, a hydrating fruit that’s rich in vitamins A and C, and antioxidants. Its natural sweetness makes it a perfect choice for this refreshing drink.
Lemon Juice: Fresh lemon juice adds a tangy twist and enhances the flavor, making the drink even more refreshing.
Ginger: Adding a touch of ginger powder not only gives a subtle spice but also brings anti-inflammatory benefits. It’s optional, but I highly recommend it for that extra zing.
Chia Seeds:Chia seeds are a powerhouse of nutrients, providing omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein. Blending them into the drink ensures a smooth texture while retaining all their health benefits.
Sweetener:You can adjust the sweetness to your liking with honey or maple syrup. I prefer natural sweeteners to keep it healthy and delicious.
Recipe: Watermelon Lemonade Agua Fresca with Ginger and Chia Seeds
Here’s how you can make this refreshing drink at home:
Ingredients:
– 4 cups filtered water
– 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
– 1 whole medium watermelon, cubed
– Sweetener to taste (honey, maple syrup)
– Ginger powder (optional)
– 1 tsp chia seeds (optional) (I blend since I don’t like the texture of chias 🫶🌸)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Watermelon: Cut the watermelon into cubes, removing the rind and seeds.
2. Blend: In a blender, combine the watermelon cubes, filtered water, fresh lemon juice, and sweetener to taste. If you’re using ginger powder, add it at this stage.
3. Add Chia Seeds: If you’re including chia seeds, blend them with the mixture for a smooth texture.
4. Strain (Optional):For an extra smooth drink, you can strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth.
5. Chill and Serve: Pour the agua fresca into a pitcher and chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving. Stir well before pouring into glasses.
